On Sunday (maybe Monday?) I decided that it was time to make another quick quilt. I recently purchased a few yards of a lovely Lewis and Irene print in gray (from the sale area at Quilters Corner) and looked around for fabrics to go with it. After a few trials, I settled for a dark green fabric with a leafy pattern and a gold with lighter and darker gold and just a touch of green. I put the top together in an afternoon and the borders were added yesterday and today.
The main print is directional, so it did require a little attention. But just a little — this is a very simple quilt. I added a 6 inch border of the main fabric all the way around to make the piece larger.
This pattern does require a full 42 inch width for the green and gold units. I prewash all of my fabrics, so these were only 41 inches. I reduced the height of the rows by half an inch and that worked perfectly. I also had less than a yard of the green. I reduced the outer green sashing by a quarter of inch and it was enough. I expect to bind the finished quilt in the gold and have tucked that piece of fabric in with the top.
This pattern is by Donna Robertson and is in the book 3-Yard Quilts on the Double.
